Because Nadja is under 3 years old, the UNHCR offers us some
extra food. Every one or two months she gets: 2 packs of
biscuits, some special flour for baby food, and 2 kilos of
dried milk.
A French UN soldier gave a German military ration pack to
Arina. It contains tea, sugar, chewing gum, chocolate, biscuits
and 2 cans of prepared dishes: one is chicken with potatoes, the
other is sausage with beans. It's enough to last one soldier for
one day.
27. Does your family rent or own your house?
We rent our apartment. Before the war, Arina and Nedzad
bought a house.
28. How much does it cost/month?
Lokman has been renting it from the government for 15
years. With the war, we are not even paying the rent any
more. How could we afford it? The government understands.
30. Is it government subsidized?
Yes.
32. How many rooms and how many square feet is it?
The apartment is 60 square meters. It has a kitchen/dining
room, a living room, one bedroom, and a bathroom.
Family Education & Well-Being
34. Are your family members literate, and if so, which ones?
All are literate except for baby Nadja.
35. How many hours/day and what months do the
children attend school? Describe the school environment.
Children go to schools whenever it's safe enough. Closed days
are announced by Radio Sarajevo in the morning.
37. What form of birth control do you use?
In the former Yugoslavia, women took pills for birth control.
Now that we cannot find any, we don't use anything.
